Set up your own website without spending – Part 2

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

I know! I know! I’m supposed to publish this last week (or two weeks ago?). It’s because of the storm. Okay maybe not. Don’t worry this is going to be short.

So, you already have your template. The next thing that you should sign up for is a web host. There are a lot of free web hosts over the internet but I will only list those that I have already tried and really liked:

  • www.geocities.com – If you have a yahoo account, you can use the same account to upload your site on geocities.
  • www.1asphost.com- If you’re using asp, you can upload your site here. It also accepts .htm or .html extensions. There is an ad at the bottom though and it doesn’t allow flash.
  • www.5000megs.com – This site offers 5GB of disk space and 10GB of bandwidth. What’s great about this is that it doesn’t have any ads on your pages.
  • www.AddYour.net – I love this site because it doesn’t have any ads, it offers unlimited disk space, free blogs, discussion boards, e-commerce tool, guestbook, image galleries, templates and other tools you can use for your site. It also allows flash and asp files.

Once you have already uploaded your files, you can now get a domain name. There are also a lot of free URL redirection sites but my favorite is www.co.nr. The reason behind this is because they do not place any ads on your website. You wouldn’t want a service that puts too much advertisement on your site, not unless you’re earning from those ads. The only catch here is that you have to put a tiny image on your index/default page.

That’s it! Now what can you do with this information? You can do freelance. Look for small businesses who want to have their own site. The rate for each web page ranges from Php150 – Php500 but it is better if you do it by package. An example would be to offer Php1000 for a 4 page site, complete with domain name and web hosting.

Good luck on your site okay?

Whoever told you that the acronym for GOLF is “Gents Only, Ladies Forbidden” is absolutely misinformed. It came from a medieval Dutch word “kolf” or “kolve” meaning “club.” The word evolved to “golf” during the 16th century.

Diet Pepsi & Mentos: Experiments #1 & #2

Thursday, July 13th, 2006

Inspired by a video of Fritz Grobe & Stephen Voltz of EepyBird.com [sent by EJ's dad - the culprit], here’s what we were up to outside 7-Eleven, Eastwood City Walk, Libis last night.

For Experiment #1, we used a 1.5 liter bottle of Diet Pepsi and 2 Mentos. The foot-high spurt left us very disapointed.

In Experiment #2, we used another 1.5 liters of Diet Pepsi – but 6 Mentos this time. The 5-6 foot high spurt left us satisfied enough for the night and got the attention of some polo barong clad security guards who didn’t know what to make of it.

Experiment #2

The lack of lighting kinda sucks and the audio seems to be out of sync, but the geyser is obvious. Voice-over comments by Gato-Chrome & D.

Doing your homework pays off. Experiment #3 should be the charm – with help from some notes. However, if you wanna go over the edge about it, there’s also dry ice.

Disclaimer: Boys, girls, and retards – don’t try this at home! Go to a park or mall so that a lot of people can witness you blow your hand off – just in case. See what happened to Pepsi Girl.

KBP Episode 1 Part 2: NBI Fixed Mix

Friday, July 7th, 2006

cast.jpgMuch-delayed, here now is Part 2 of Episode 1 of the Kwentong Barbero Podcast [KBP]. EJ, Gato-Chrome, and D rant about their experience of acquiring their NBI Clearances at the NBI Satellite Office at City Hall.

We decided to chop off this bit and release it as part two because the recording had gotten a bit long. We were told that too much exposure to the KBP may cause your brain to melt [you've been warned]. This part is also where our three-way voice conference became choppy.

Yet another amateur potcast episode, listen to it via streaming audio using the plugin below, or download your own copy of the mp3 using the download link.

File info: 5.83 MB, 20:22 minutes, 40 kbps, 16 kHz, stereo.

Intro music by Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen

Outro music, our Pinoy Indie band feature: Nodetrack Band – Minsan Lang
Koneksyon: Dahil minsan lang namin mararanasan ang kalbaryo ng pagkuha ng NBI Clearance!
